Hard to believe, yet one more year has not only slipped by, but the next one is well on it's way! So we at Las Vegas Pool Service (ServicePro is our operating name) have lined things up so you don't have to on getting your pool ready for the upcoming warm weather. My 2 favorite seasons here in Las Vegas are spring and fall. The unfortunate part is, it truly seems that each is only about 2 or 3 weeks long! So with that in mind, it is time to get going on your pool! So weather or not you need s...

Preparing Your Swimming Pool For Summer 2016

Posted by Derrick Ward on Friday, February 26, 2016, In : Pool Maintenance
So believe it or not, winter is coming to an end and summer is rapidly approaching. As a matter of fact, it may be here sooner than later since we are reaching near highs for day time temperatures. This weekend temperatures will near 80 degrees. So when this happens this early while the sun is still positioned in the South still, it makes a really good incubator for algae. What we can do to help out is to a complete assessment of your water status. We will test total hardness and total dissol...

Summer is Winding Down What do I do with my Swimming Pool?

Posted by Dane Wicker on Wednesday, September 9, 2015,
The biggest misconception in owning a swimming pool in Las Vegas is the idea that once summer is over, the maintenance of the pool can be paused or even completely stopped. This is simply not true! Once the weather changes and our daytime highs aren't in the 100's any more, our work isn't over. Leaves, dirt and debris continue to fall into the pool and if left, will stain the plaster. Also, our filter pumps continue to work and collect dirt and small debris and will also need to continue nee...

How do I best service my swimming pool here in the Las Vegas summer heat?

Posted by Dane Wicker on Wednesday, September 9, 2015,

As most of us who have been in Las Vegas for any sort of time know that summer months can be brutal!  And those  of us fortunate enough to have a swimming pool can really lessen the "pain" the summer heat can cause on our bodies and our emotions!  Before having a pool, I often contemplated leaving Las Vegas every summer just because the heat was so draining on my whole life (mind, body and spirit!).  But now having a home with a swimming pool has been great!  The kids are having the time of t...

Cleaning Swimming Pool Filters to minimize problems

Posted by Dane Wicker on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, In : Pool Maintenance
The reason our swimming pools stay crystal clear is due to a number of things.  First of all, correct water chemistry will ensure our water stays clear and algae free.  But another important factor in keeping our equipment running at it's highest efficiency is making sure to periodically clean the filter cartridges.  You see, every little particle of dirt, debris and even our skin particles that flake off while we swim are all captured by the pool filter.  It does an amazing job at catching p...

What to do with my pool in the winter?

Posted by Dane Wade on Sunday, January 4, 2015, In : Pool Water Circulation
Just wanted to touch on a couple of concerns pool owners in Las Vegas have every winter.  The most commonly asked question I get is:  "How long do I run my pool in the winter?"  I always respond by telling them the most important thing is not how long to run the pool, but when to run the pool.  You see, even though we live in a desert that during summer months is hotter than Haiti, during the winter it does get cold here and often times freezes!  So when you need to run your pool in the Las V...

How Long Do I Run My Pool Pump?

Posted by Dane Wicker on Sunday, May 6, 2012, In : Pool Water Circulation
With the hotter summer months getting closer and closer, many have a question as to how long to run their filter pump every day.  I recommend setting your pool time clock to run at least 8 hours a day once temperatures reach 90 degrees through the end of September.  The time to run the filter pump is typically 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or maybe 9 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.  That way, the pool is circulating through the hottest hours of the day and will have uniform chlorine levels throughout the pool, because wh...

Algae in my pool

Posted by Derrick Ward on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, In : Swimming Pools with Algae
Many pool owners experience algae at some point or another and that's ok.  The challenge with algae is, you have to catch it before it gets out of control.  Once algae has been observed you just need to act and not wait thinking it will go away on it's own or it will not get worse without doing anything, because it won't!  But. don't panic!  You just need to follow a few easy steps:  FIrst, you need to shock the pool.  Most times once you have algae, the liquid is not enough.  You will need t...
